Regardless of what your business sells, growing your email list should be a top priority. If you could do just one thing to grow your email list, offering an incentive or “bribe” is a very effective method. Before someone joins your mailing list, they need to know how it benefits them (WIIFM). Offering a freebie like an eBook, PDF, video, or other downloadable file is a great way to get them to take that initial step. In this post I’m going to show you how to use Wufoo to grow your email list and send out digital delivery emails, all available under their free plan!
Wufoo Mailing List Form
Go to http://wufoo.com and create an account or log in to your existing account. Then you’ll want to go to the Template Gallery and select the Mailing List template. This link will take you right where you need to go: https://www.wufoo.com/gallery/templates/forms/mailing-list. Then just click Use This Form.
Create a Simple Opt-In Form
You’ll then be taken to the form edit screen. Here we are just going to make one small change and add a Name field and drag it above the Email field. Best practice is to leave the Name field optional. You could also edit the label on the Email field if you don’t like the “Your Email Address” text.
Set Up Digital Delivery
Now that the fields are ready, we’ll setup the confirmation email. Click over to the Form Settings tab. You’ll need to enable/check the Send Confirmation Email to User box. Then select the field which contains the user’s email, in this case it is “Your Email Address“. And then include a reply to email address so that you can be notified if a user replies to the confirmation email.
Next, click the Customize Confirmation Email button. This will open a window where you can enter the message that will be sent to the visitor. Here’s where you include the link to your download file. Enter in your message with the link and specify your Name or Company and click Done.
Form Header Information
While in the Form Settings, you will also want to update the form header section as this let’s the visitor know what they will receive when they signup. Lastly, change the confirmation message that is shown after the visitor submits the form.
Save & Share
Your form is now ready to go so click Save Form. Once the form has been saved you will be given a couple options. If you would like to be notified whenever a signup occurs, you can click Option 2 to configure the notifications. Otherwise just choose Option 3 to go back to the Form Manager.
Your form is ready to share. Click the View icon to open the form. That is also the URL that you will want to send visitors.
Wufoo offers a ton of themes that you can use to customize the look and feel of your form. Be sure to give those a try and find the one that best matches your company’s branding. If you need to embed the form on your Facebook Page, check out the last part of this article. If we missed something or you have questions about any of the steps above, give us a shout in the comments.
Bonus Tip: Want to capture leads using Wufoo but still update the subscriber list on your existing email service? You can have your signups sent to your email list provider from Wufoo by using a service like Zapier. Here’s a zap I’ve shared for sending Wufoo entries to MailChimp: http://zpr.io/P46c
